So there are about 5 sides to this story, but here are some facts that all sources have agreed upon.
Todd Palin (Sarah Palin's husband), was a member of the Alaska Independence Party (AIP).
He was a member from 1995 to 2002, with a couple month hiatus in 2000 when he was registered as "undeclared."
A focal goal of the A.I.P. is the secession of Alaska from the union. A.K.A. they want Alaska to become its own country.
The founder of A.I.P. was Joe Vogler, who is quoted as saying:
"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."
AND
"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government and I won't be buried under their damn flag."
Vogler died in "a plastic explosives sale gone bad."
Is this worth knowing? Perhaps.
And as long as the McCain-Palin ticket keeps suggesting that Barack Obama is a terrorist sympathizer, then I feel that this is more than relevant. AND it would be more than fair for this to become an advertisement against the Palin's.
If I were running the ad I would say that this is a dircet link to a radical group: VP Nominee Sarah Palin is married to ---> her husband Todd Palin who was a 7 year member ---> of A.I.P.

As far as the current economic crisis goes, nobody is 100% to blame. From all that I have read and heard, two major problems were:
-Deregulation by Republicans
- Democrats pushing for loans and mortgage deals for poor people who were not qualified to receive them.
It gets more complicated than that, but the bottom line is that nobody is 100% at fault, and nobody from either party has clean hands.

let's put things into perspective....
Alaska has been in the Union almost 50 years, right?
So there are obviously some people living there for over 50 years who still resent that fact. Whether it be some extra taxes imposed on them since joining the union or simply Alaskan pride that was hurt. So something like this isn't totally radical in my opinion. It's almost expected.
We of all nations should realize about states wanting to leave the union....the civil war was almost 100 years after we became a country....
No one from the A.I.P. has bombed anything unlike Ayers, and you really don't think there is a similar group in Hawaii?? And (for purpose of argument) if Puerto Rico was to join the Union, you expect all of them to have 100% loyalty to the USA? Come on.
You provide two quotes with pretty harsh words....but still doesn't hold a flame to Ayers' bombings....
I sense a little desperate attempt to cause a distraction from Obama......
The notion of Alaskans wishing to secede from the United States is radical. The last time states tried to secede we had a civil war. And let’s be honest, the U.S. wouldn’t let Alaska go without a fight. So if these people were pushing for secession, and we know that our government wouldn’t let that happen, we can see a problem (potentially a violent one) erupting from such an action.
The founder and recently deceased leader of A.I.P. was killed trying to buy deadly plastic explosives. What would such a radical man want with those explosives? …Especially when you couple that with the anti-American insults that spewed from his mouth, you seem to get a pretty good idea what type of organization this truly is.

If Puerto Rico was to join the Union, and 50 years down the road a Puerto Rican was selected for the Vice Presidential ticket, I would expect that Vice Presidential candidate and their spouse to not have ties to, or been members of, a radical group that spews hate speech about America; especially when their ex-leader perished while buying deadly plastic explosives.
The very fact that Todd Palin isn’t even old enough to have been around when Alaska became part of the U.S., and yet he still was a member of this secessionist group is confusing to say the least.

I already addressed the Obama/Ayers issue in a previous blog. There’s a huge difference between Palin’s husband BEING IN A GROUP for 7 years that has this type of leader who says these things and Barack Obama being 8 years old when a radical carried out bombing campaigns. He was then in a Republican funded educational organization that Ayers happened to be on. That organization was supported and funded by people who have now donated to McCain’s campaign.
The notion that somehow as a consequence of Barack Obama knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when he was 8 years old, somehow reflects on him and his values, doesn't make much sense.
How is the Ayers association anywhere near as close to the Palin association with A.I.P.?
